A collection of singles, rare tracks, and other wonders from one of the best bands of the 90s. Music so beautiful, so emotional, so passionate that it defies description. Truly stunning...

I have long loved LSD and saw the opportunity to hear this collection. Sadly, many of the songs won't be on my favorites playlist but "Mirrors Still a Sky" is pure magic. It is the highlight of this collection and I wish the band many more years of success.

"Come away, with me, oh human child
To the waters and the wild
With a fairy hand in hand . . ."
You can not stay here one more day
The world is full of sorrow and decay
Through the forest, to the sacred lake
Musing "in my hands to find you to find you
Reason after reason to find you."
Where the waters slumbering and still
A whirlpool will take us to the mill
An hourglass of time will be killed
We'll dance in rings around a cherry tree
And only eat the reddest berries
In the timeless spring eternally
Musing "my hands to find you"
Musing "my hands to find you, to find you
Reason after reason to find you."
I journey to the valley of the moon
Driven forward by brilliant shafts of light
Half crazed from lack of love I swoon
And cry your name into the, the cold dark night
Close my burning eyes to see your shining face
Floating in dreams that tortures soul and heart
Promises of love, love and light and grace
That disappear upon waking with a start
I find myself alone, confused and forlorn
I cry your name into the, the cold dark night
Gazing round myself I am surprised to see
Moon comes down to me, her gentle arms enfold me
Love to dream, dream of love
And all it was, it was
All it was, it was what I wanted to be with you
And all it was, it was
And it was, it was everything to me you knew
And all it was, it was
All it was, it was that I wanted to be with you
And all it was, it was
And it was, it was everything to me
Love to dream, dream of love
Love to dream, dream of love
All it was, it was what I wanted to be with you
And it was, it was everything to me you knew
Over their 8 year history, Love Spirals Downwards released four 10,000+ selling albums; Idylls (1992), Ardor (1994), Ever (1996), and Flux (1998), incorporating the styles of ethereal, shoegazer, folk, world, ambient, and electronica to create a sound uniquely their own.
'Temporal: A Collection of Music Past & Present' is a career retrospective of this seminal ethereal act's recordings for Projekt Records. From their hauntingly beautiful acoustic world/folk beginnings to their later ambient electronica sound, this compilation covers the entirety of Love Spirals Downwards' unique body of work with 13 tracks compiled and mastered by band founder, composer, sole musician, and producer, Ryan Lum.
Arranged in reverse chronology, 'Temporal' begins with a set of remixes produced by Lum in 1999: "Alicia" - featuring guest guitarist Rodney Rodriguez, of The Von Trapps, and "Misunderstood" - a remix of "I'll Always Love You" - with additional moody saxophone played by special guest, Doron Orenstein, of Monkey Bars.
Indeed, one of the interesting points of Lum's musical selections is that he managed to highlight every guest artist he worked with on LSD recordings. Suzanne's sister, Kristen, who contributed lyrics and vocals to two popular songs on their final album, 'Flux,' appears here on 'Ring," and Jennifer Ryan Fuller, who provided the lyrics and vocals for the duet "Depression Glass" from 'Ardor,' is also highlighted.
While this retrospective collection features some album cuts, it also contains several tracks from various artist compilations or EPs - which are generally hard to find, particularly at the time of this re-release - plus the first appearance of a live acoustic version of "Subsequently.'
For the Bandcamp digital album, 3 additional bonus tracks have been added to round out the collection: a recently recorded version of the 1994 instrumental "Mirrors A Still Sky," a 1994 recording of Black Tape For A Blue Girl's "Through Sky Blue Rooms," and their popular Dr. Seuss cover, "Welcome Christmas," from 1995. None of these have previously appeared on an LSD release.

PRESS:
"Love Spirals Downward's Temporal: A Collection of Music Past & Present gathers early songs, remixes, and previously unavailable tracks, showcasing the transitions in their ethereal, folky, and now subtly electronic sound. Working in reverse chronological order, the album emphasizes this new direction with remixes of "Alicia" and "Misunderstood," the Flux track "Ring," and the previously unreleased "Asleep." As always, Suzanne Perry's sumptuous vocals and Ryan Lum's playing and arrangements make this collection an atmospheric yet engaging delight, particularly on songs like "Amarillo," "Mediterrenea," "Depression Glass," and the live version of "Subsequently." Though it's not necessarily a good starting point for Love Spirals Downwards, Temporal is a fine overview of their past, present, and future sound."
-- Heather Phares, All Music Guide
"Love Spirals Downwards has always existed in a moody, enchanting universe all its own, thanks to the musicscapes of guitarist/keyboardist Ryan Lum, and the unearthly crooning of vocalist Suzanne Perry. Their earlier releases contain haunting, drifting melodies and layered, melancholy vocals reminiscent of Enya, while later albums incorporate some gentle yet vital dancebeats into the spell. Now, Love Spirals Downwards releases a long-overdue retrospective titled Temporal. It is a comprehensive overview of the duo's many shades. Whether you're relaxing in the dark tranquility of post-first-date bliss, or are swimming in the nostalgia of love lost, this album will help you keep warm."
-- Jeff Stringer, Borders 'Inside Magazine'
"A greatest-hits disc after only four albums? Apparently, when you're as good as Love Spirals Downwards, you can get away with it--especially if you throw in a few remixes and rare tracks to make it worth your fans' while. Working its way backward through the band's career, 'Temporal' provides a highlight reel of vocalist Suzanne Perry's ethereal musings and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Lum's moody atmospheres. And while it's perhaps not too much of a stretch to go from the 4AD-style bliss of early tracks such as "Mediterrenea" and "This Endris Night" to the heavenly drum and bass of later songs such as "Alicia" and "Ring," LSD have never left their core audience behind, most of whom would heed Perry's siren call even if she sang in a heavy-metal band. Cocteau Twins fans, the torch has been passed."
-- Steve Landau, Amazon Editorial Reviews
"[Temporal] charts the band's growth from a heavily ethereal folk duo with a surplus of goth appeal to its more recent incarnation as an atmospheric drum 'n' bass outfit. All of the songs display a smooth-as-ether ambience, a unifying trait that has long masked this very mellow band's adventurous, survivalist qualities. Temporal marks yet another in Love Spirals Downwards' unbroken series of subtle triumphs, a serene reflection on a career bursting with unassuming creative victories."
